The 2025 New Orleans Saints are in the basement of the NFL, as they're 0-3 and are starting 2024 fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler at quarterback, who has completed 57 percent of his passes in nine career games. However, they still have executive vice president/general manager Mickey Loomis, who was at the helm when they won their only Super Bowl in the 2009 season.
That was when the Saints had 13-time Pro Bowl quarterback Drew Brees, who's the greatest player in franchise history. The Purdue alum holds NFL records for career passing yards (80,358), completions (7,142), most 5,000-yard passing seasons (five), and games with 300-plus passing yards (123).
New Orleans announced another Brees accomplishment on Wednesday via its social media.
"Drew Brees leads a group of Saints legends that are nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026," it said. The other nominees are quarterback Jake Delhomme, guard Jahri Evans, tight end Wesley Walls, kicker John Kasay, defensive tackle La'Roi Glover, and fullback Lorenzo Neal.
Brees is already in the Saints Hall of Fame, but he wasn't eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame nomination until this year. Players must be retired for five full seasons before getting nominated, and the Texas native retired after the 2020 season.

Brees has remained active post-retirement, serving as an interim assistant coach for Purdue football in 2022. Now, the 46-year-old is a part of ESPN First Take, via ESPN PR.
"Tuesday, former NFL quarterback Drew Brees made his First Take debut as an NFL contributor with Stephen A. Smith & team," the company posted on Wednesday. "Brees will make weekly Tuesday-only appearances on ESPN's signature morning debate show this football season."
Brees can break down the game of football as well as anyone. The 6-foot, 209-pounder is the poster child for quarterbacks succeeding at a below-average height for the position, and he did that by gaining advanced knowledge on how to read defenses. The San Diego (now Los Angeles) Chargers drafted him in the second round in 2001, so he wasn't considered an elite prospect.
Meanwhile, the Saints are looking for their next Brees. They've had a revolving door at quarterback since his retirement, going from Jameis Winston to Andy Dalton to Derek Carr, and now Rattler. They could find their franchise quarterback in the 2026 draft, as they'll finish with a top-five selection at their current pace.
