Kellen Moore, new head coach for the New Orleans Saints, seems to be wasting no time in filling out his staff.
Moore, who was officially announced as the team's new coach on Thursday, actually agreed to terms on Tuesday. Since then, the Saints have hired Brendan Nugent as their new offensive line coach, retained Keith Williams at WR coach, and are setting up interviews for their defensive staff.
On Thursday evening, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo also reported that New Orleans has hired Chase Haslett as the team's new Tight End Coach. It's a name that may sound familiar to Saints fans.
Chase is the son of former New Orleans Saints head coach Jim Haslett. A former NFL linebacker and longtime defensive assistant, Jim Haslett headed up the Saints from 2000 to 2005 and led the franchise to it's first playoff victory.
Chase Haslett was a collegiate quarterback at Illinois and Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant first at Nebraska (2016 and 2017), then with Mississippi State in 2018.
Haslett began his NFL coaching career as an offensive quality control coach with the Dallas Cowboys in 2020. He remained in that role through the 2022 season. Over those three seasons, the Cowboys offensive coordinator was new Saints coach Kellen Moore.
During those years with Dallas, the Cowboys had top-10 rankings in several offensive categories. After Moore's departure in 2023, Haslett was moved to assistant TE coach. He was promoted to the team's Pass Game Specialist last season.
During Haslett's time in Dallas, he helped oversee the development of TE Dalton Schultz. Haslett will take the spot of Clancy Barone, who coached New Orleans tight ends for the last two seasons.
The Saints ranked 21st in total offense last season and 23rd in passing production. Converted wideout Juwan Johnson has been the team's leading tight end for the last three seasons. Johnson was second on the team with 50 receptions for a team-high 548 yards during the 2024-25 campaign.
