America’s Team failed America in a major way on Sunday.

The Cowboys covering as a six-point favorite was the fourth-most popular bet at BetMGM with 76% of the public backing it. Action Network tracked 82% of the money pouring in on it while the sharps also liked Dallas to cover.

Instead, it got blown out of the water in a 44-19 loss.

A silver lining for the public, though, was that the over easily hit. Exceeding 47 points was the most bet over of the week at BetMGM with 78% of the money. Not only did it hit, but it was a sweat-free win as it cashed in the first half.

Things were ugly for Dallas right off the bat. New Orleans scored on each of their first-half possessions on their way to a 35-13 halftime lead. Combined with last week’s win over the Panthers, that meant they scored on their first 14 offensive drives of the season. They also found paydirt on the first drive of the second half to make it 15 straight scores before Derek Carr threw a pick on their second drive of the third quarter.

According to Action Network’s Director of Research Evan Abrams, the Saints became just the second team since 1990 to score at least 35 first-half points as a six-point underdog. The only other team was the Jason Campbell-led Raiders back in 2010.

Alvin Kamara was the star of the show for New Orleans, reaching the end zone four times in the afternoon. He finished the day with 20 carries for 115 yards and three touchdowns while also catching two passes for 65 yards including a 57-yard catch and run into the end zone.
