There has been speculation that the Philadelphia Eagles might trade wide receiver A.J. Brown this offseason. If they do make him available, the New Orleans Saints should pursue him.

The Saints are an up-and-coming team and could use a star like Brown. There are several potential landing spots for the three-time Pro Bowler. While teams like the Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots make sense, don’t forget about the Saints.

The Saints Need to Pursue Wide Receiver, A.J. Brown

His Career Thus Far

A.J. Brown played college football at Ole Miss. He was named First Team All-SEC during his four-year career with the Rebels. In his final season, he caught 85 passes for 1,320 yards and six touchdowns.

The Tennessee Titans later drafted Brown in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he helped the Titans reach the AFC Championship Game, where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Brown finished his rookie season with 52 receptions, 1,051 receiving yards (leading all NFL rookies), and eight receiving touchdowns. As a result, he was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team.

The following year, Brown caught 70 passes for 1,075 yards and 11 touchdowns, and was voted to his first Pro Bowl appearance. He also helped the Titans make the playoffs, as they lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card Round.

Brown was traded to the Eagles in 2022. He recorded 88 receptions for 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns during his first year in Philly. He helped quarterback Jalen Hurts and Co. reach Super Bowl LVII, where they lost 38-35 to the Chiefs.

During the 2024 season, Brown and the Eagles got their revenge against the Chiefs. This time around, they defeated Kansas City 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX. Brown had three catches for 43 yards and a touchdown in the game.

This season, A.J. Brown and the Eagles lost to the San Francisco 49ers 23-19 in the Wild Card round. Brown had his worst year as a pro since 2021 as he caught 78 passes for 1,003 yards.

Why the Saints Need A.J. Brown

This offseason, the Saints need to address the wide receiver position. They already have a super-talented receiver in Chris Olave. The former Ohio State Buckeye has recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards in three of his four seasons. This year, he caught 100 passes for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns.

No doubt about it, Olave is a star when healthy. Yet, the Saints lack depth outside of him. That’s why trading for A.J. Brown makes a ton of sense.

Sure, Brown is coming off his worst season since 2021. However, he’s still one of the league’s best receivers. He has failed to reach the 1,000-yard mark just once in his seven-year career, and that was because he missed four games due to injury that season (2021).

The 6-11 Saints missed the playoffs this season. But Brown could certainly help them reach the next level. He has made the playoffs six of his seven years, and has played in two Super Bowls, winning one.

Brown could also help Tyler Shough, who had a promising rookie year, develop into a star quarterback. So again, the Saints should go after A.J. Brown this offseason if he’s available.
