Saints players had emotional reaction to win over Giants

The New Orleans Saints earned their first win of the season and their first home victory since Nov. 17, 2024, when they handed the New York Giants a 26-14 loss at Caesars Superdome this past Sunday.

Per Katherine Terrell of ESPN, Saints running back Kendre Miller revealed that some of his teammates shed tears in the locker room while celebrating the Week 5 result.

Saints' win over Giants resulted in emotional release for players

"It was just a crazy amount of people crying [Sunday]," Miller admitted. "You could just tell all the emotions that went into this, and now people are crying. Like 'OK. We got one.'"

Sunday's victory resulted in multiple firsts for members of the Saints. First-year head coach Kellen Moore started his New Orleans tenure with four consecutive defeats heading into Oct. 5, and quarterback Spencer Rattler had never won a start at the highest level. A 2024 fifth-round draft pick, Rattler went 0-6 as a starter during his rookie season before he dropped four straight games in September.

"It sucks," Saints center Erik McCoy said about how the club's losing ways impacted players. "Across the board, because I mean, you put in the work, you put in the time, you put in the effort, you put in the physicality, your body hurts every single day and then just to not see the results on Sundays, it's hard."

What Kellen Moore loves about Spencer Rattler

The Saints took advantage of three turnovers committed by Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart after Big Blue jumped out to a 14-3 lead. Meanwhile, Rattler completed 21-of-31 pass attempts for 225 yards against the Giants. One of those throws resulted in an 87-yard touchdown.

"He's been consistent, and that's what I love about him," Moore said about Rattler. "...Battled through some really challenging circumstances and played a bunch of good football."

Rattler and Co. will look to build upon what they achieved against the Giants when the 1-4 Saints host the New England Patriots (3-2) this coming Sunday. As of Tuesday morning, ESPN BET had New Orleans as a 3.5-point home underdog for that matchup.

"When you win at that dome, I think quickly you realize how awesome it is, it's a really special place," Moore added.
