The New Orleans Saints have kept wide receiver on their radar for some time this offseason. After surprisingly passing on addressing their need at pass catcher in the NFL Draft, they've made a couple recent moves to bolster depth. Now, they have their eye on the son of a former superstar and now Pro Football Hall of Famer.
According to Jordan Schultz, the Saints are working out former Chargers wide receiver Brenden Rice on Monday. He is the son of Jerry Rice, legendary NFL wideout. Los Angeles drafted Rice in the 7th round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

New Orleans has continually addressed the wide receiver depth in recent weeks. That started with their trade for former Denver Broncos wideout Devaughn Vele. Vele is a big body with sure hands that fills a specific role for Kellen Moore's offense. They lacked size prior to the deal to acquire Vele. Then, last week on waivers, the Saints claimed and signed Trey Palmer to provide some speed and special teams presence.
Rice is listed at 6'3 and 210 pounds. Bringing him in as another larger WR option could make some sense, but his production at the pro level is nonexistent so far.
Rice is a player who simply hasn't quite found his footing in the pros yet. He played in three games for the Chargers last season. He did not record a reception. Buried on the depth chart, Los Angeles chose to move on recently.
The young WR worked out for the Philadelphia Eagles last week, but that didn't end in a contract. It remains to be seen if he can impress the Saints enough to ink a deal. Signing Rice to the practice squad may be the most likely and logical move for New Orleans if they do have interest in bringing him to their team.
