Saints to have 'discussion' about starting quarterback vs. Raiders

Eventually, first-year head coach Dennis Allen will have to name a starting quarterback between either Jameis Winston or Andy Dalton before the 2-5 New Orleans Saints host the 2-4 Las Vegas Raiders this coming Sunday.

Allen wasn't ready to disclose any decision while speaking with reporters at the start of the midweek.

"I think that’s a discussion that we have with the offensive staff. We’ll see where we are," Allen explained on Monday, per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. "I do think Jameis is getting healthier. I do think that’s a discussion we have to have. I think both of those guys will have themselves ready to play. Hopefully, after we get a chance to talk about it, discuss it, we’ll have a good answer for what we’re going to do."

Winston served as New Orleans' Week 1 starter but hasn't played since Week 3 due to back and ankle injuries. Dalton, meanwhile, has won just one of four starts this fall and threw three interceptions in this past Thursday's 42-34 loss at the Arizona Cardinals. Two of those picks were returned for touchdowns.

Thus far this season, Winston has completed 73-of-115 passes (63.5%) for 858 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions. Dalton has connected on 83-of-131 attempts (63.4%) for 946 yards with seven touchdowns and four picks.
