The San Francisco 49ers simply cannot catch a break when it comes to injuries. Last season, their entire year was ruined due to injuries.

To start off the 2025 NFL season, the 49ers have managed to go 3-0. Even though Brock Purdy and George Kittle have both missed time, the team has found ways to overcome the adversity and win.

Unfortunately, in their hard-fought Week 3 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco suffered another massive injury. Nick Bosa has now been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL. Once again, the team just keeps getting ravaged by the injury bug.

With that being said, how can the 49ers try to replace Bosa? Taking a look at the trade market could be one option.

One potential option has been brought up as a possible route San Francisco could consider taking.

Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard has suggested New York Giants star pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux as a potential trade target for the 49ers.

“Also, the Giants’ Kayvon Thibodeaux could interest the 49ers because of his youth — he’s 24 — and talent and because he might soon be available,” Kawakami wrote.

Thibodeaux has been talked about as a potential trade candidate since the offseason. Now that the Giants have both Brian Burns and rookie Abdul Carter, moving on from Thibodeaux could make sense.

If New York does indeed open to trading him, San Francisco should have interest. Not only would Thibodeaux be a huge pickup for this season, he could be a long-term addition. Even when Bosa is back to full health next season, Thibodeaux could form a lethal pairing with him moving forward.

Throughout his four-year NFL career thus far, Thibodeaux has played in 46 total games. He has recorded 136 tackles, 22.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and 11 defended passes.

Making a move for Thibodeaux would not come cheap. The 49ers would have to pay up to get him, but the price would be worth it if they sign him long-term. He would also be the kind of piece that could help solidify San Francisco as a Super Bowl contender this season.

Whether or not the 49ers will try to make a splash trade or not remains to be seen. But, if they do start looking into that option, Thibodeaux would be a name worth watching closely.
