The San Francisco 49ers are making their final cuts for the 53-man roster before the start of the 2024 regular season. San Francisco came up just short of a Super Bowl victory last season against the Kansas City Chiefs and is looking to get back to the promised land. The team made several cuts along with every other franchise in the league, including a long-time veteran running back.
The 49ers have released veteran running back Matt Breida after struggling in the preseason this year. Breida began his career in San Francisco in 2017 and has also been on the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and the New York Giants.

The veteran running back was only able to amount to 29 rushing yards on 15 carries this preseason despite being a solid back throughout his career. His best career year was actually with the 49ers back in 2018, when he rushed for 814 yards on 153 carries for three touchdowns. He has not proven to be a starter, however, he has been a great second or third option at the position for all of the teams he has played for.
Luckily for Breida, he will not need to hit the waiver wire upon being let go, which can give him a great chance to find a new team before the start of the regular season. However, with his production steadily declining, it could be hard for him to become a potential target in free agency, which could mean he will stay with San Francisco as a member of their practice squad.
Do you think Breida will find another team willing to sign him onto their roster, or are his best years now behind him?
