Despite it being fall, the Philadelphia Eagles haven't felt this kind of heat since their Week 4 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Facing more of that heat is the offense, which has struggled to produce the exact numbers they did a season ago. Their stats are among the bottom of the NFL in every category outside of points per game, and that is starting to take a tumble in the last two matchups.
One noticeable issue is the running game and getting Saquon Barkley the ball. In the last two games, Barkley has only rushed the ball 18 times. This is not a recipe for success, and everyone knows it.
This led the team, after the mini bye week, to reevaluate their offense and figure out what to do. Earlier in the week, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni mentioned a meeting the offense had with offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, the rest of the offensive coaches, and the offensive players to figure out how to address the issues.
It appears as though the guy not getting the ball nearly as often as he should had an opinion on the meeting.
Barkley appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia reporter John Clark's "Take Off" podcast, where Clark concluded his interview by asking Barkley about that offensive meeting. The defending Offensive Player of the Year was a big fan of everyone coming together like that.
"I think it's super important. Lost two in a row, but at the end of the day, 4-2. We're in a good spot right now. Just gotta continue to get better. I love the conversation that we had. I love where the mindset that we are going to, but at the end of the day, we got to go out there and execute it. It's going to come to tough, detail, and together. And that's the mindset we're going to continue to have."
Clark snuck in a question about whether the offense has finally found their identity. Barkley was not about to let everyone know about it.
"I don't wanna give too much scouting information to Minnesota. We look forward to getting out there and getting things back on track."
It's been an incredibly frustrating first six games for Barkley as he has rushed for just 325 yards and three touchdowns, while adding 137 receiving yards and another score. He's on pace to have his worst season since 2021, when he averaged just 45.6 yards per game. Barkley is currently at 54.2 yards per game.
This certainly feels like it could be the turning point of the season for the Eagles, but many thought the offensive players meeting Barkley was a part of that, too, and it didn't help at all. Only action in Week 7 against the Minnesota Vikings will truly show whether the Eagles have found their identity.
