As teams around the league evaluate veteran quarterback options ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers' Mac Jones is not expected to be among those moved.
Speculation earlier this offseason suggested Jones could draw interest from quarterback-needy teams. However, when inquiries were made, San Francisco's asking price was reportedly "astronomical."
Teams moved on, and Jones' potential market cooled.
That stance that San Francisco remained intent on keeping Jones around for the 2026 season, which makes sense. Signed last offseason, Jones proved to be one of the team's smarter additions. He stepped in during Brock Purdy's absence due to a turf toe injury and delivered steady play as Purdy recovered.
"One quarterback not expected to go anywhere is San Francisco's Mac Jones, whose market never heated up this offseason," Schefter reported.
Schefter added that Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken was asked at last month's NFL owners meetings why Jones' market failed to gain traction. Monken declined to comment directly on a player under contract with another team, as it could be viewed as tampering.
However, he joked, "I would just tell [49ers head coach] Kyle [Shanahan] to cut him, and then we'll see what the market is."
Jones finished the 2025 season with 2,151 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions across 11 appearances (eight starts). He remains under contract with the 49ers through the 2026 season.
