Seahawks commit to continuity by extending key executive

In a major show of confidence in his leadership, Seattle Seahawks president of football operations and general manager John Schneider signed a four‑year extension with the team, keeping him through 2030, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported.

The move ensures that he will oversee the organization for four more years and cements his role as the architect of Seattle’s football operations well into the next decade.

Since his arrival in 2010 alongside head coach Pete Carroll, Schneider has been one of the driving forces behind one of the most successful eras in Seahawks history. Under his guidance, Seattle has reached the playoffs 10 times, claimed five division titles and won Super Bowl XLVIII.

Schneider had several stellar draft picks who became pillars of "The Legion of Boom," including free safety Earl Thomas, strong safety Kam Chancellor, linebacker Bobby Wagner and cornerback Richard Sherman. He also made other key additions elsewhere, including future Hall of Fame quarterback Russell Wilson, running back Marshawn Lynch and edge-rusher Michael Bennett. All of these moves turned the Seahawks into perennial contenders for much of the 2010s.

During the 2020s, Schneider kept the Seahawks steady after many of the core group aged out, moved elsewhere or retired. Under Carroll, the team found a diamond in the rough with quarterback Geno Smith, who paired perfectly with wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. The team maintained decent play during 2022 and 2023, but decided to make a big change in the 2024 offseason by replacing Carroll with head Mike Macdonald.

This offseason, Macdonald and Schneider have been hard at work to retool and rework the roster. The team traded Smith and  Metcalf. They then had an aggressive offseason in which quarterback Sam Darnold, wide receiver Cooper Kupp and edge-rusher Demarcus Lawrence joined the team.

Seattle also added rookies such as guard Grey Zabel and safety Nick Emmanwori, who are both potential immediate contributors. These moves reflect the long-term vision of both Schneider and Macdonald.
