On a night when Seattle sports fans needed something to cheer them up following the heartbreaking loss of the Seattle Mariners in Game 7 of the 2025 American League Championship Series, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and company delivered for the city.
The Seattle Seahawks recorded their second win in a row and fifth overall in the 2025 NFL season by defeating CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans at Lumen Field in Seattle on Monday evening.
The 23-year-old Smith-Njigba lit up the Texans' leaky defense for 123 receiving yards and a touchdown on eight receptions and 14 targets, as the Seahawks took down Houston, 27-19.
Smith-Njigba has been spoiling the Seahawks with incredible performances downfield over the team's last few games. He's even made history on Monday, with his third consecutive 100-yard outing.
"@Seahawks WR @jaxon_smith1 became the second player in franchise history to record three straight 100 yard games and his five 100-yard games this season are tied for second-most in franchise history," Seattle's official PR account on X announced.
The former Ohio State Buckeyes star wideout is now on pace not just to clear his career-high of 1,130 receiving yards in 2024, but to shatter it. He has 819 receiving yards through seven games to lead all players in the NFL, so far in the 2025 regular season.
But Seattle’s ground attack also stepped up, as Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet combined for 115 of the team’s 118 rushing yards, with Charbonnet finding the end zone twice. Quarterback Sam Darnold, meanwhile, went 17-of-31 for 213 passing yards and a touchdown, with Smith-Njigba catching his attention throughout the night.
With their win, the Seahawks managed to pull even with the 5-2 San Francisco 49ers for the best record in the NFC West after seven weeks of football.
Looking ahead, Seattle will enjoy a bye in Week 8 before resurfacing on the field on Week 9 against the Washington Commanders at Northwest Stadium in Landover.
