Seahawks' Sam Darnold addresses nightmare end to Vikings tenure

Sam Darnold received a three-year, $100.5M contract from the Seattle Seahawks back in March after he guided the 2024 Minnesota Vikings to a 14-3 record.

However, Darnold's nightmare outings over the final two games of his Minnesota tenure have some wondering if he will forever come up short on the sport's biggest stages.

During a recent chat with Michael Silver of The Athletic, Darnold spoke about all that went wrong for the Vikings during their Week 18 loss at the Detroit Lions and their wild-card playoff defeat at the Los Angeles Rams.

"For lack of a better term, we laid an egg as an offense," Darnold directly said. "And I think, for me personally, that sucks. I felt like we were a really good team, but at the end of the day — and this is gonna sound a little pessimistic — but when you get to the end of it and you don’t win the whole thing, you failed. I feel like I could have played way better, to be completely honest with you. I feel I didn’t play up to my standard. I truly feel that way. I feel like if I would have just played better, I would’ve been able to give the team a chance."

Darnold established himself as the top signal-caller of this year's free-agency class when, per ESPN stats, he finished the 2024 regular season ranked fifth in the NFL with 35 passing touchdowns and fifth with 4,319 yards through the air. However, he completed 18-of-41 passes for 166 yards with no touchdowns in the matchup versus the Lions that determined the champions of the NFC North and the No. 1 seed for the playoffs. Darnold then took nine sacks, tossed an interception and lost a second-quarter fumble that was returned for a score against the Rams.

For an article published on Thursday, ESPN's Brady Henderson mentioned that Darnold's 7.7 percent sack rate was the 10th highest among qualified quarterbacks for the regular season. Critics may say such a stat, coupled with Darnold's last two games with Minnesota, shows he could once again see "ghosts" with Seattle.

"I learned a lot last season, from those two games especially," Darnold added. "At the end of the day, you go through those experiences, you learn, and you get better. I try every single day to get better. That’s it."

If he doesn't "get better" from what he was during his last two games, a Seattle team that made quarterback Jalen Milroe a third-round draft pick earlier this spring could think about moving on from Darnold as soon as next offseason.

Patrick Mahomes Sends One-Word Message to Travis Kelce After 'Happy Gilmore 2' Release

Travis Kelce’s move from the football field to the big screen is making waves, and not just among fans. The Kansas City Chiefs star is going viral for his unexpected but hilarious role in “Happy Gilmore 2,” now streaming on Netflix. The two-time Super Bowl champ posted about the experience on Instagram, sharing behind-the-scenes photos with Adam Sandler and his father, Ed Kelce. “Man this life is crazy!! Still so surreal I got this opportunity. Adam Sandler SANDMAN!! Thank you brotha, for the opportunity and for giving us all Happy Gilmore 2!” he wrote, encouraging followers to check out the film. The post caught the attention of his longtime teammate, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who left a one-word comment that summed it all up: “LEGENDARY.” Kelce’s brief appearance in the movie has become one of its most buzzed-about moments. He plays a grumpy restaurant manager, but the role takes a wild turn when Bad Bunny’s character imagines him shirtless, slathered in honey, right before a bear enters the scene. Mahomes’ comment wasn’t just a show of support. It echoed what many Chiefs fans and moviegoers felt about seeing Kelce break into acting. While Kelce has dabbled in entertainment before, from hosting “Saturday Night Live” to game show appearances, this is his first scripted movie role. Taylor Swift, Kelce’s girlfriend, also praised the movie. She shared the film’s poster on Instagram, calling it “an absolute must-watch” and giving it a “13/10” rating. Kelce and Mahomes have often backed each other’s ventures off the field. When Mahomes recently launched a T-Mobile campaign with college quarterback DJ Lagway and NFL legend Rob Gronkowski, Kelce responded with fire emojis, showing the same support Mahomes just returned. With “Happy Gilmore 2” trending and training camp underway, the Chiefs stars are proving that their bond runs deep, whether it’s for touchdowns or movie cameos.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Had 7 Words After Blue Jays' Historic Win Over Tigers

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is in his seventh season with the Toronto Blue Jays, having made his MLB debut in 2019. From the moment he stepped onto a big-league field, Guerrero Jr. showcased formidable offensive talent. However, it was in the 2021 season that he fully broke out as a superstar. That season, the 26-year-old slugger finished second in American League MVP voting while leading all of baseball with 48 home runs and 123 runs scored. In April 2025, Guerrero Jr. secured his long-term future in Toronto by signing a 14-year, $500 million contract extension—the richest deal in Blue Jays history and the second-largest in MLB history. He has justified that massive investment with sustained dominance, earning his fifth consecutive All-Star selection this year. On Friday, the Blue Jays defeated the Detroit Tigers 6–2, thanks in large part to Guerrero Jr.’s contributions. He went 2-for-5, recording a pair of doubles, scoring twice, and driving in one run. Asked afterward how it felt to be on a personal hot streak amid Toronto’s post–All-Star-break surge, Guerrero Jr. replied, “If the team is winning, I’m hot.” Friday’s victory marked Toronto’s third straight win and improved their record to 62–42, the best mark in the league. It is the first time the franchise has held the top overall record this late in the season since 1992. The win also stretched the Blue Jays’ lead in the tightly contested AL East to 5.5 games after the New York Yankees fell to the Philadelphia Phillies. Over his last seven games, Guerrero Jr. has been scorching hot, batting .483 (14-for-29) with a 1.255 OPS, including one home run and seven RBIs.

Dustin Rhodes Assigns Blame After Hulk Hogan’s Death

Following the shocking news of Hulk Hogan’s passing, wrestling legend Dustin Rhodes, known to millions as Goldust in WWE, took to social media to share a deeply personal and provocative reaction: “Hospitals truly kill people. I really do mean that.” Rhodes’ blunt statement stunned many fans, but those who know his story saw the pain behind the words. His father, the iconic Dusty Rhodes, passed away in 2015, aged 69, after a fall at home led to hospitalization for kidney failure. After his father's passing, Dustin shared a contemplative response on WWE's YouTube channel to discuss the legacy his father left behind. The news of Hogan's death comes just a month after reports suggested he was on his "deathbed" after undergoing a neck procedure back in May. Hogan's reps denied that was the case. In June, US Weekly reported that Hogan had also undergone a "pretty serious heart surgery and was doing well afterward." Dustin’s connection to his brother Cody Rhodes, now a top WWE superstar and face of the company’s next generation, is unbreakable. The Rhodes family legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of pro wrestling history, and seeing another legend like Hogan pass has clearly hit close to home. While Goldust and Hulk Hogan never had a headline-grabbing rivalry, they did share the ring once. It occurred in WCW in 2000 when Dustin Rhodes matched up against Hogan. Although their paths didn’t often cross in the squared circle, Hogan and the Rhodes family were part of the same larger-than-life era that helped define pro wrestling for decades and catapult the sport into society's zeitgeist. Rhodes’ comment about hospitals might not sit well with everyone, but it speaks to a raw and honest pain felt by someone who has seen too many legends, both personal and professional, fade away in similar fashion. The sport of wrestling has endured more than its fair share of lives cut short. As tributes continue to pour in for Hogan, Rhodes’ reaction serves as a powerful, if somber, reminder of the real human emotions behind the wrestling personas.

Trade rejection speaks volumes about Red Sox's Jarren Duran intentions

Trade rejection speaks volumes about Red Sox's Jarren Duran intentions

The Boston Red Sox appear to have no interest in trading outfielder Jarren Duran, at least not in the near future. Trade rumors have swirled around Duran for most of the season, especially after designated hitter Rafael Devers was traded to the Giants. However, Sean McAdam from MassLive reported that the Red Sox may wait until the offseason before moving on from the former All-Star. The decision to wait on Duran is not due to a lack of offers. McAdam also reported that the Padres made a significant offer for Duran involving pitcher Dylan Cease, catching prospect Ethan Salas and another unnamed prospect. That offer was quickly rejected. The Padres have long coveted Duran. McAdam had previously reported that the Padres have been "relentless" in their pursuit of the Red Sox outfielder. The reported trade offer including Salas, the Padres second-best prospect and the 21st-best prospect in baseball per MLB.com, illustrates how serious they are about acquiring Duran. Likewise, the Red Sox's refusal to entertain such an offer, even as a starting point for negotiations, speaks volumes about their interest in moving Duran. The Padres' offer would help solve several problems for the Red Sox in both the present and future. Moving Duran would help clear up the logjam in the outfield, while Cease and Salas would respectively improve the back of their rotation and provide a possible cornerstone behind the plate going forward. Duran is a valuable trade chip as he is under team control through 2028. He has also taken a step back in production from his stellar showing in 2024, posting a respectable .254/.321/.428 batting line in 459 plate appearances entering Friday, with nine homers and 25 doubles while stealing 16 bases. That production would be an upgrade for several teams looking to improve their outfield going forward. The question is whether or not the Red Sox will be realistic in their asking price for Duran. Considering how quickly the Padres' offer was reportedly rejected, that may not be the case.
