Seahawks' Sam Darnold shares blunt assessment of turnover woes

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold endured a nightmare outing when he threw a season-worst four interceptions in the club's 21-19 loss to the Los Angeles Rams that dropped the Seahawks to 7-3 on Nov. 16.

Per the StatMuse website, Darnold and Miami Dolphins signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa head into this weekend tied for the most turnovers committed this season (14). Meanwhile, the Seahawks lead the NFL with 20 turnovers on the campaign.

On Thursday, Darnold revealed his feelings about Seattle's giveaway woes.

Sam Darnold knows he must be better for Seahawks

"It's unacceptable," Darnold directly said, per Brady Henderson of ESPN. "We understand, as an offense, we have to be better. I have to be better protecting the football. We're doing everything that we can in practice, and when the game comes, to try to take care of the football a little bit better."

One poor showing should not cause Seahawks fans to panic regarding what Darnold and Co. could accomplish through at least January 2026. Seattle won four straight games before Week 11 and would be a playoff team had the regular season wrapped up on Thursday night.

According to Pro Football Reference, Darnold began Friday ranked fourth in the NFL among qualified players with a 71.3 adjusted QBR, sixth with a 105.0 passer rating, sixth with an average of 254.1 passing yards per game and tied for 10th with 17 touchdowns through the air.

Sam Darnold appreciates support from teammates

Following the loss to the Rams, Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV offered a passionate defense of Darnold. On Thursday, Darnold addressed the support he has received from teammates and coaches this week.

"When things don't necessarily go the way that I've wanted them to, especially on game day, the reason that it sucks for me is I feel like I'm letting those guys down," Darnold said. "And I feel like a lot of guys in the locker room feel the same way. That energy and the things that [Jones] said, it meant a lot to me for a guy to have my back like that. But I know the guys are just going to fight no matter what the case is, and so I'm going to do everything that I can to put my best foot forward and go execute at a high level."

The Seahawks may feel they have something to prove when they play at the lowly Tennessee Titans (1-9) this coming Sunday. As of Friday morning, ESPN BET had Seattle as a 13.5-point favorite for that matchup.
