With Jadarian Price on injured reserve and Zach Charbonnet not yet back in the fold, the Seahawks could stand to add a running back. A free agent workout with Joe Mixon is set to take place.
Mixon will meet with the defending Super Bowl champions, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported earlier today. The veteran back will travel to Seattle on Sunday before an audition takes place tomorrow, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio adds. Mixon himself has seemingly acknowledged the news on social media.
After a seven-year tenure in Cincinnati, Mixon spent the 2024 campaign in Houston. The two-time Pro Bowler’s lone Texans season saw him handle a workhorse role while totaling 1,325 scrimmage yards and 12 total touchdowns. Mixon was sidelined for the entire 2025 season, though, and his request to be released was granted in March. He has been a free agent since, with no known suitors emerging.
A foot injury kept Mixon, 30, out of the picture in 2025. A summer report stated an NFL return was not expected in this case, with an additional surgery having taken place this offseason. Based on this news, however, Mixon is certainly interested in an opportunity to resume his career. It will be interesting to see if tomorrow’s workout leaves a deal as a distinct possibility.
Seattle is currently averaging 101 rushing yards per game early this season. That figure ranks 18th in the NFL, leaving plenty of room for improvement even when the team’s backfield is healthy. Charbonnet has been named as a candidate to debut in Week 6 based on the timing of his expected return to practice over the coming days. By that point, Mixon may also be in the fold.
The Seahawks have roughly $13MM in cap space at the moment. As a result, a low-cost flier on Mixon would certainly be affordable.
