A day after trying out for Seattle, cornerback Trevon Diggs has landed a contract with the reigning Super Bowl champions. The Seahawks are signing Diggs, Jordan Schultz reports. It’s a one-year deal, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
This is the second notable agreement the Seahawks have reached with a cornerback in the past week. They agreed to sign Terrion Arnold last Thursday, though the Seahawks have not finalized that signing yet. If and when it happens, Arnold will go on the commissioner’s exempt list as a result of a late-June arrest on eight felony charges of kidnapping and armed robbery. As long as Arnold is on the list, he will not be eligible to practice or play in games.
With Arnold’s career in limbo, the Seahawks are adding an immediate depth option in Diggs. After going to Dallas in the second round of the 2020 draft, Diggs quickly broke out as one of the league’s premier ball hawks. He made his first Pro Bowl and earned first-team All-Pro honors after an 11-interception outburst in his second season. Diggs’ INT total dropped to a more sustainable three in 2022, but he broke up 14 passes and earned another Pro Bowl nod.
After Diggs amassed 49 pass deflections and 17 picks over his first three seasons, the Cowboys awarded him a five-year, $97MM extension in July 2023. Diggs was fresh off two consecutive full seasons when he signed, but injuries have knocked his career off course since then. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder tore his ACL two games into the 2023 campaign. Diggs made it back for the start of the next season, but he wound up missing six games with a groin injury. Last year was another truncated campaign for Diggs, who logged eight absences as he dealt with a concussion and more knee troubles.
When Diggs was healthy enough to play in 2025, opposing quarterbacks roasted him for a 77.3 completion percentage and a shocking 157.2 passer rating (158.3 is perfect) over his first eight games. The Cowboys then waived Diggs in late December, in part because of a disagreement with head coach Brian Schottenheimer. Diggs, a Maryland native, wanted to stay with family after the Cowboys went on the road and beat the Commanders on Christmas Day. Schottenheimer denied the request, but Diggs sealed his fate when he decided to skip the team flight and stay behind.
Seeking a healthy corner for their Week 18 regular-season finale, the Packers claimed Diggs from the Cowboys and took on around $530K. Diggs started and played 49% of defensive snaps in the Packers’ 16-3 loss to the Vikings. After wrapping up a dismal regular season with no INTs or pass breakups in nine games, Diggs played just one snap in the Packers’ wild-card round loss to the Bears. Green Bay cut Diggs 10 days later, and he became a free agent after clearing waivers. Seven months later, the soon-to-be 28-year-old is finally off the market.
Diggs has started in 64 of 67 games during his career, but he will come off the bench in Seattle. The Seahawks have shutdown corner Devon Witherspoon and Josh Jobe locked in as their one-two punch, though they took a hit when Riq Woolen left to sign with the Eagles in free agency. Woolen, who recorded a 72.8% snap share last season, will not be easy to replace. Diggs, Nehemiah Pritchett, Noah Igbinoghene and currently injured third-round rookie Julian Neal are among the players who will try to fill Woolen’s void.
