The Los Angeles Rams are running it back with star quarterback Matthew Stafford for the 2025 season.
The Rams and Stafford agreed to a restructured contract shortly after the 2024 season concluded, although it became somewhat contentious at times. Still, both sides came together and agreed to a deal that will keep Stafford in Los Angeles for another season.
After securing that deal, the Rams re-signed Jimmy Garoppolo to serve as Stafford's backup again, a role he held in 2024. The Rams are pleased with Garoppolo, and head coach Sean McVay thinks that he is a starting quarterback in the NFL.
"I look at Jimmy, he's a starting quarterback," McVay said to Kay Adams. "What's cool about that, though, is the respect and reverence he has for Matthew (Stafford), and the way Matthew leads that room, but Jimmy has played at a really high level. He's going into year 12. He's got so many things to bring to the table and we were really fortunate that he chose to come back here because he had a lot of other opportunities. There's no doubt in my mind he is a starting quarterback in this league."
Garoppolo started in one game (the Rams' season finale) last season and finished with 334 yards through the air, two touchdowns, and an interception.
If anything happens to Stafford this year, Garoppolo will be more than ready to step in.
