In an interview with reporters, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay says that he expects star wide receiver Puka Nacua to play in week 4.
Nacua, who’s been out since week one, is expected to make his return in a highly anticipated matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, October 4. After recording five catches for 74 yards before exiting for a groin injury, Nacua hopes to be good to go. The wide receiver has gone through limited practices this week, and news of his return is a good sign for the Rams’ hopes.
It’s impossible to oversell the impact of Nacua’s return to the field, as he’s a top-10 receiver in the NFL and one of reigning NFL Most Valuable Player Matthew Stafford’s favorite targets. Nacua is coming off of a 2025 season in which he caught 129 passes for over 1,700 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Stafford likely benefits the most from the return, due to new options. Although with Davante Adams and Kyren Williams, not having the downfield presence that Nacua brings has been a struggle for the MVP, who has 6 touchdowns on the season along with four interceptions, which is half of his entire 2025 season’s interceptions in three games. Stafford will likely not have tight end Terrance Ferguson for the game, who is doubtful for Sunday’s game.
The Rams were an early favorite for the Super Bowl, but have struggled to meet that expectation so far. Even with the return of franchise legend Aaron Donald, who hasn’t played football in two years, and the blockbuster trade that brought in edge Myles Garrett, the team has largely not been able to stay on the field. Garrett, after the opening game in Australia, has been on injured reserve following knee surgery.
The Rams have more than enough time to turn their season around, and with Puka Nacua coming off of a two-game setback, the team will be able to get their passing offense closer to what McVay likes to play. Expect Nacua to have a major impact in his return.
