Head coach Sean McVay's hiring by the LA Rams had a domino effect throughout the NFL.
It came to be known as the Sean McVay effect where one after the other, NFL teams started hiring younger coaches with unproven track records.
McVay's success led to many young coaches getting hired by struggling teams.
Colin Cowherd points out that most of these coaches have not panned out like their teams wanted.
During 'The Colin Cowherd Podcast' on Monday, the Fox radio host said, "It's a little bit of the 'Sean McVay' influence. So, Sean McVay is young and all of a sudden, everybody wants to hire the next Sean McVay".
Cowherd talks about how Kliff Kingsbury, Brandon Staley and Mike McDaniel were hired for head coaching jobs despite not necessarily having an impressive track record.
But after going through a season or two, there was a realization throughout the league that Sean McVay is different.
At the age of 30, he was hired as the head coach. Even though others tried to copy this model, they still went for coaches a few years older than that, showcasing conservatism.
Ironically, even that didn't work out. Kingsbury went 29-37-1 with the Arizona Cardinals. Mike McDaniel is struggling in his fourth year and there are talks about him being on the hot-seat. Brandon Staley's tenure with the LA Chargers was marred by infamous collapses.
There are a few others who've shone through. Kevin O'Connell was 39 years old when he was hired by the Minnesota Vikings. His stellar debut season gives them hope for the future.
DeMeco Ryans is also another strong head coach focusing on the fundamentals. Houston Texans have an advantage as CJ Stroud is a solid quarterback who hasn't even begun his prime.
On the other hand, many teams failed trying to act under the 'Sean McVay' influence.
It showcases the downside of being a copycat league and falling into pitfalls in the name of trends.
