Sean McVay Ripped For 'Stupid' Decision vs. Panthers

It's not often Sean McVay's coaching comes into question, but Saturday's second quarter decision deep into Carolina territory had fans coming for the Super Bowl champ online.

Up 10 on the Carolina Panthers with the chance to go up another score, McVay and the Rams punted on the opportunity to kick a short field goal on 4th & 3 and instead turned the ball over on downs after being gifted outstanding field position.

Bryce Young and Carolina ended up using that opportunity to generate seven points of their own with a long touchdown drive — and all of the sudden an 11-point favorite is only up three heading into halftime. It didn't take long for McVay to hear about it either...

Sean McVay getting crushed by fans over 'worst' call

Taking to social media, thousands of angry fans called out McVay and the Rams over their first half performance.

"Just take the points, Sean McVay," a user said. "You are against Bryce Young. Stop overcomplicating things because of 'analytics.'"

"Sean McVay is the worst coach in football with a lead. A f—king moron," another replied.

"McVay is overthinking the damn game plan. If you’re going to play conservative the whole drive why not just kick the FG there?" a fan asked.

"For being a very smart guy.. that was an incredibly stupid decision by the Rams Sean McVay to go for it on 4th down. You always take the points.. go up 20-7. Instead.. Panthers go down the field and make it 17-14 to end the half. Ridiculous!" another person exclaimed.

"We need to start having conversations about McVay," another user claimed.

"As good as McVay is as a coach we HAVE to start questioning his play calling on big downs!!"

"McVay should be fired for that decision," another viewer stated.

Puka Nacua drops huge first-half pass

Perhaps the biggest play of the game thus far has been the dropped pass of Puka Nacua that would've been a walk-in touchdown prior to the break.

As special as Nacua has been all season — and through the first two quarters of this game — the two-time Pro Bowler was visibly upset with his mistake and had to be consoled by both McVay and his teammates.

We'll see how long the aftereffects of Puka's drop are ultimately felt. But Bryce Young and the Panthers have some life with 30 minutes to go in the opening game of the NFL's wild-card round.
