There is no love lost between the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers. Both teams are rivals in the NFC West and have played more than 150 times dating back to 1950. That rivalry still holds true even when traveling abroad outside of the United States.
Rams head coach Sean McVay got a special surprise while on vacation over the weekend.
McVay was trolled by a 49ers fan, Blake McCall, while on vacation in Saint-Tropez, France. McCall originally posted the interaction on Instagram on June 21st, per New York Post.
He captioned his post: “Bought a bottle of champagne for @rams Head Coach @seanmcvayofficial to show my love for @49ers ”.
McCall bought McVay a bottle of champagne and had it brought to the table by bottle-service girls. But the twist was that they were holding a sign that showed the logo for the 49ers.
Credit to McVay, who took the entire interaction in stride. He got up from his table to shake McCall’s hand and was smiling and laughing throughout the interaction.
It is great to see that NFL coaches and fans can put their animosity aside during the offseason. But that same attitude will not hold true in just a few months once summer begins turning back into fall.
McVay will not have to wait long before squaring off against the 49ers during the regular season.
LA opens the season against San Francisco during the NFL’s first ever international game from Australia. It should be one of the most anticipated matchups from the Week 1 slate.
