The Denver Broncos are 2-2, and the offense has dealt with plenty of issues early on.
As a result, head coach Sean Payton is now taking matters into his own hands. Payton is reportedly going to be “more heavily involved” in play-calling, although it is being labeled as a “collaborative” effort.
#Broncos coach Sean Payton will be more heavily involved in offensive play-calling this week, sources told me and @MikeGarafolo. The process will remain collaborative, with OC Davis Webb continuing to be a major voice on game day & during the week. But Payton will have say. https://t.co/H7YBs1k4vt

The Broncos offense was expected to see a big boost with former QB coach Davis Webb as the new OC. Joe Lombardi was fired following the AFC title game, and Payton gave Webb a promotion after he earned interviews for other OC jobs.
Payton then allowed Webb to call plays, which was a big change, especially since Payton has been the primary play-caller during his entire tenure as an NFL head coach.
To start the season, however, Denver is 27th in points per game (18.5) and 29th in rushing yards and 28th in time of possession, so the offense has been sluggish.
Quarterback Bo Nix said the players let Webb down in the Week 1 blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Denver has scored 30 points just once this season, and the offense has scored less than 20 points in two games.
It seems time for a change, and let’s see if it works out. The Broncos face the winless Los Angeles Chargers in Week 5 at SoFi Stadium.
