The Seattle Seahawks made some big changes to the roster this offseason. It started when they traded quarterback Geno Smith to the Raiders and then signed Sam Darnold to a deal. They then traded wide receiver DK Metcalf to the Steelers and released Tyler Lockett. The moves were done with the future in mind. This is still a young team with one of the best defensive coaches in the league, Mike MacDonald. They have plenty of draft capital to work with. Here is the 2025 NFL Draft preview for the Seattle Seahawks.
The Seattle Seahawks have ten draft picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Seattle Seahawks benefited greatly from their trades this offseason. They now hold five picks in the top 100, giving them plenty of draft capital to add to their already talented young team. Jaxon Smith-Njigba was one of the best wide receivers in the NFL in the back half of the year. Devon Witherspoon is one of the best young corners in the league. With a strong draft class, this team could set the foundation to rule the NFC West for a long time.
The Seattle Seahawks need some help on the offensive line, especially with Darnold under center. Last year, they struggled to protect Geno Smith, and Darnold is notorious for poor play under pressure. Furthermore, Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet are a great running back tandem that could use better blocking. Additionally, another quality wide receiver would be great opposite Smith-Njigba.
On defense, the team needs a dynamic pass rusher off the edge. Last season, Byron Murphy fell into their lap, and he had a solid rookie year. Building depth on the offensive line will help take some pressure off the young secondary. Seattle could use some secondary depth as well. There are plenty of needs, but outside of maybe the offensive line, they are not glaring. They can build depth or use some draft capital to get the perfect piece.
Mock Draft
Given the offensive line deficiencies, it may seem surprising that the Seattle Seahawks go defense for the first two picks. The talent is too good to pass up. Morrison, especially, could end up being a steal as an injury is the only reason he has fallen. Still, getting three offensive linemen in the draft is solid. Even if two out of three are only depth pieces, it is still worth it, especially when you get to the later rounds.
Ultimately, I tried to think what MacDonald would think. What helps an offense? A dominant defense. Every area on the defense gets some young talent. We saw with the Los Angeles Rams how two or three picks can transform a unit. Murphy and Broughton would be a young duo on the interior, and Stewart could easily become the starter on the outside. Overall, the team gets loads of young talent for MacDonald and his staff to mold.
The Seattle Seahawks took a big risk this offseason. Smith and Metcalf did a lot of winning in Seattle. However, I do applaud the team for not being okay with middling in mediocrity. If Darnold can repeat what he did last year and this draft class hits, this team could be competing for an NFC West crown in 2025.
