Seattle Seahawks encouraged to keep adding weapons for QB Sam Darnold

The Seattle Seahawks entered Day 1 of the 2025 NFL draft with two main options: upgrade their offensive line or add another weapon for quarterback Sam Darnold. Ultimately, the team used its first-round pick on North Dakota State offensive lineman Grey Zabel.

Seattle filled a major need with Zabel before trading up to take physical South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori at the top of the second round. The team addressed other needs by adding Miami tight end Eljiah Arroyo and wide receiver Tory Horton on Days 2 and 3.

So what should the team do next? NFL.com's Judy Battista released an offseason to-do list for all 32 teams after the 2025 draft. For the Seahawks, her suggestion was to continue adding weapons for Darnold.

"Darnold was one of the great surprises of 2024, but in order to replicate his success with the Vikings, the Seahawks have to make sure he is comfortable and well-protected, and that elite weapons are at his disposal," wrote Battista. "If they do, the Seahawks should again be in the playoff mix."

When looking at the best remaining NFL free agents, there are a few key names available. The top wide receiver on the market is former first-round pick Amari Cooper. Other potential options include Keenan Allen, Nelson Agholor, and DJ Chark.

The Seahawks already signed former Rams wideout Cooper Kupp to a three-year, $45 million contract. However, the team released veteran Tyler Lockett and traded away DK Metcalf, so there was a lot to make up for.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba has somehow become the forgotten man in Seattle. Coming off a breakout campaign in 2024, Smith-Njigba figures to be the team's No. 1 wide receiver for the forseeable future.

The former first-round pick out of Ohio State posted a career-high 100 catches for 1,130 receiving yards and six touchdowns last season.

Since the Seahawks have over $30 million in salary cap space, adding another weapon for Darnold seems like a real possibility before the 2025 NFL season rolls around.
