Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith Sees Perfect Fit in New-Look 2024 Offense
Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks are entering a new era of football in 2024. Gone is Pete Carroll and to replace him the team brought in Mike Macdonald. Geno Smith is back as the team’s starting quarterback, but the Seahawks went out and acquired young signal caller Sam Howell in a trade with the Washington Commanders.

Smith may start the season as the starter in Seattle, but he is not guaranteed to end it the same way.

At 33 years old, Smith is playing for his future as the Seahawks’ starting quarterback. If he plays well, he might just earn more time in future y ears. On the other hand, if he is average or bad, he will be replaced by Howell and then may never get another starting opportunity.

All of that being said, the pressure is on to start the 2024 NFL season for the Seattle Seahawks’ veteran quarterback.

Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith Seems Perfect Fit in New-Look Offense

In a recent quote, Smith talked about the team’s new offense. He’s excited, because he believes that his game is a perfect fit for the system.

“I feel like I’m a drop-back passer and I feel like this is a drop-back offense. An offense that’s going to spread the ball around, trust the quarterbacks to make the right decisions. That’s pre- and post-snap. I think that’s something that I’m really good at. Just want to make sure I’m doing the right things when it comes to that.”

Smith is coming off of a 2023 season where he played decently, but was nothing special.

In the 15 games he played, Smith ended up completing 64.7 percent of his pass attempts for 3,624 yards, 20 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also picked up 155 yards and another touchdown on the ground.

Looking ahead to the upcoming campaign, the Seattle Seahawks are going to need more than that.

As the NFC continues getting better, the Seahawks are in danger of missing the playoffs once again. The front office won’t like it if that ends up being the outcome of the 2024 season.

The offense has plenty of talent to be a very good unit. Smith will need to get the most out of his teammates.

It will be interesting to see what kind of numbers he can produce under a new coaching staff. Smith is facing a lot of pressure, but he seems confident that he can rise to the occasion and prove that he’s still a top-notch starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks.
