The season is right around the corner, and the only thing left to do after roster cuts is changing jersey numbers. It might not seem important, but you know what they say: you look good, you feel good, you feel good, you play good.
These players are going back to their roots, or changing it up with their new jersey numbers, and you can react accordingly with this information, especially when it comes to buying a new jersey this season.
The training camp rookie standout, Bill Croskey-Merritt, is changing it up and going from 32 to 22, and I personally like the change. The number became available after the Commanders released Kazmier Allen.

Croskey-Merritt is already a fan favorite in Washington and one of the more popular names around the entire league when it comes to fantasy football. The Commanders will likely have a RB committee this season with Croskey-Merritt, Chris Rodriguez Jr, and even Austin Ekeler on third downs. Adam Peters traded Brian Robinson Jr. because of the upside he's seen in the seventh-round pick.
I had a strong feeling that backup QB Marcus Mariota would go back to his glory days and change to the number eight, which he wore at Oregon when he won the Heisman Trophy, and he did as soon as it became available. The number means more to Mariota than people realize, and the team gave it to him before he even had to ask for it.
Marcus Mariota says he didn't even have to ask the #Commanders to change his number from 18 to 8, a number he says is very meaningful to him. The jersey was hanging in his locker before practice. Also gives a tip of the cap to Brob who wore 8 that past few seasons @wusa9 pic.twitter.com/XWC0eo0NiB

There were a lot of other players that made the 53-man roster that had to get out of some crazy looking numbers, including Javon Kinlaw, who was rocking number 52. He needed a more defensive line-looking number after having an impressive offseason, and he switched to 99.

Tyler Owens finally got out of the 40 jersey and into 18, which fits better as a safety, and he's ready to have a bigger role this season, especially on special teams. It was going to be hard to keep five safeties on the active roster, but Owens can be a big play-maker, and the decision was easy to make.
Colson Yankoff is another player who impressed this offseason and earned a roster spot after making one of the biggest plays in the preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens. I didn't think the Commanders would keep four TEs, but Yankoff was too good to send to the practice squad, and now he has a real TE jersey to match his play on the field.
52 yards for Colson! ♂️

George Fant is also going back to his former number 77 that he wore on the Houston Texans as he reunites with his old teammate Laremy Tunsil on the offensive line. Fant made the team as a really late addition, but he brings a solid backup tackle option for the Commanders this season.
Week 1 is quickly approaching, and these players had to get their uniforms right before taking the field against the New York Giants. Which jersey ae you repping this season?
