Shedeur Sanders got his first NFL start on Friday. While many fans are tuned in to simply watch him lead an NFL offense, Sneakerheads everywhere are tuning in to see what Shedeur will wear in pregame warmups as well as in the game. On May 17, during an NFL Rookie event, Shedeur teased that he would have "Browns colored" DT Max 96s in August. What Shedeur marched out, will be Sneaker news tomorrow.
Shedeur is almost famous at this point in Sneakerhead circles for his pregame cleats, sometimes even more so than his game cleats. Fans should remember the NY Giants colorway, the ‘new money’ colorway, the fuchsia and black colorway, all of which were pre game cleats. On Friday Shedeur unveiled something that should be considered instant heat, especially considering the task at hand. Create a Cleveland Browns ‘brown and orange’ that goes with a predominantly black cleat. Nike clearly understood the assignment. As in the game cleats, there is an interesting alternating color in the flamework. Conceptually, brown should clash next to black. It doesn’t. Nike found a way to marry the two concepts beautifully
For Shedeur’s game cleats, they might be even more impressive. Somehow “clean” doesn’t quite say it. The Browns are wearing what some fans have come to call the “dress whites”. So it would make sense to create a game cleat that is a perfect match for the uniform. The game cleats are mostly white. Not unlike the “Colorado Away” colorway seen during the 2024 College Football season. Yet, somehow more clean or crisp of a look. In part because the ’flamework’ is not limited to one secondary color. The “dress whites” have the rare combination of being almost equally brown and orange after the white. The game cleats do the same thing.
Knowing that Shedeur was set to debut new cleats, Sneaker heads everywhere should have expected more than a white and orange or white and brown. Again, Nike did not disappoint. Instead of the customary two tone look of most Diamond Turf 3 models, the Shedeur edition, alternates colors within the flamework. Starting from the toebox towards the heel, the flamework alternates. Brown-orange-brown-orange-brown (the last brown wraps around the heel and the pattern continues on the other side. Nike, on behalf of Shedeur found away to make a Browns colorway for both pregame and game cleats that rival most of the Diamond Turf 3 colorways that dominated the sneaker landscape for the last year and a half.
These most certainly feel like Player Editions (ie PE), but if the Sneaker culture talks these up enough, Nike could find good reason to make these for wide release.
