Shedeur Sanders issues heartfelt apology amid Browns quarterback drama

For most of the offseason, Shedeur Sanders has shown the same playful and kind demeanor he's had since his collegiate days.

He's been nothing but supportive of Deshaun Watson and all of the Cleveland Browns' quarterbacks over the course of their underwhelming competition.

However, he didn't handle his last press conference well, citing that he was tired of responding to the same question about Watson over and over, which prompted criticism on social media.

That's why Sanders did a mea culpa and apologized to the media in his next press conference ahead of the team's preseason opener. 

Shedeur Sanders apologizes to the media

“First, I want to apologize for how things were last time I came up here before you all,” Sanders began. “I dislike when there’s a lot of separation, and when something gets between the team and people get painted a certain way, and all this different type of stuff.”

Sanders said, “next question. I answered this question 1,000 times,” and clearly looked disgruntled and bothered by the constant scrutiny and how they kept going back to the same subject over and over.

Even so, he knows he didn't handle himself in the best way, and that's also a part of the job:

“So, that’s where I get frustrated and I shut down. Because this doesn’t help us win,” added Sanders. “I feel drained when I express myself to people in places and cameras when it’s not received and taken the right way, or it’s trying to divide the team, or something like that. So, that’s where I was just trying to preserve my energy from going in depth with a lot of things.”

Watson will start the first preseason game vs. the Chicago Bears, but Sanders will play in the second half.

Then, they switch places for the second game, this time at home vs. the Buffalo Bills.

Watson seems to be slightly ahead in the competition, but Sanders has a golden opportunity to flip the script on national television on Saturday.

Still, as he showed with this gesture, being a franchise quarterback is about much more than just performing on the field.
