Shedeur Sanders’ future with the Cleveland Browns continues to remain uncertain ahead of the NFL trade deadline. Todd Monken chose Deshaun Watson as the Browns QB1 before the start of the 2026 NFL season, and Watson has not given Monken a reason to complain since that decision. It was a brave call by Monken, as the majority of Browns fans wanted Sanders to start, but the decision has paid off.
Watson has recorded 1,010 passing yards in the five games of the 2026 season, including seven touchdowns. The veteran has a pass completion percentage at 64.2% and a passer rating of 101.2. Slowly and steadily, Watson has started to roll back the years with his eye-catching performances. However, this has sidelined Sanders.
So what’s next for both Sanders and Watson in Cleveland? Watson currently has a five-year, $230 million contract that runs through the 2026 season. Mary Kay Cabot recently gave an update on Watson’s future with the franchise. She said, “If he continues to play well — he’s currently No. 8 in the NFL with a 101.2 rating — the Browns will consider re-signing him after the season.”
On the other hand, Sanders has had a lot of trade rumors surrounding him. However, most recently, Daryl Ruiter reported that the Browns had no plans to trade him, as the franchise was looking to develop him. But, Sanders’ latest personal move has triggered further trade speculation.
Sanders recently signed with a new agent, Adie von Gontard, CEO of Young Money APAA Sports, for representation. Cabot has provided an update on his future with the Browns following the move. Cabot said, “I know that the Browns don’t want to trade him. He’s next in line. He’s next man up, and they always need at least two quarterbacks a year.”

“So I don’t know that you would want to go and ask for a trade when you’re one play away from getting in the game,” she added.
The Browns are currently 3-2 after their first five games and will look to bounce back against the Baltimore Ravens following their loss to the Jets.
