After making a controversially sexist remark about Mary Kay Cabot, NFL safety and Shedeur Sanders’ brother, Shilo, broke his silence on the matter.
During an appearance on The Coach JB Show, Sanders somewhat stood by his comments. He claimed it doesn’t make “sense” that people jumped to the conclusion that he “hates women” after what he said.
“Thankfully, I’m my own platform, I’m my own man. Whatever I see, I can respond to, I can react to, and voice my opinion,” Sanders said.

He then explained that since he’s currently a free agent and not signed to a team, “I can say what I want.” Sanders then called himself a “media outlet” while he’s a free agent. While he’d love to play, he’s taking advantage of his opportunity as a “media outlet.”
Ultimately, it sounds like Sanders thinks it has been blown out of proportion because of his last name. He asked, “Whatever I see, whatever I want to respond to, that’s just what I want to respond to, but how’s it a problem if your last name is Sanders and you do that?”
The host defended Sanders by claiming he was “defending his brother.” After all, Sanders was responding to Cabot’s claim that Deshaun Watson should be named the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback over Sheduer.
The drama began after Cabot made her claim about the Browns’ quarterback situation. Sanders responded to the quote on Instagram, commenting, “Go make a sandwich Mary.”
Appearing on 92.3 The Fan, Cabot diplomatically responded to Sanders. She is proud of the impact she’s had on women in journalism, and she won’t let Sanders’ remark affect that.
“I really do believe that I have been an inspiration for lots of women and young girls to know that you can go out there and do a good job in a man’s world and take on all of that that comes with that,” Cabot said, “and I know there are so many women who have joined the football world especially because of some of the things that I’ve been able to do over the years, and I’m happy about that.
“I know that will continue. Now we’ve got women playing flag football, and I’m just happy that I have been able to help set the tone and open some doors in that way,” Cabot concluded.
