Should Miami Trade Brooks and Brewer and Add 2 to 3 more Top 100 Draft Picks?

With the NFL Draft less than two weeks away, we will see if Jon-Eric Sullivan has a trade or two up his sleeve to acquire more draft picks. And the names to keep an eye on are Jordyn Brooks and Aaron Brewer.

De’Von Achane is also a name to keep an eye on, but the price tag for any team to acquire him via trade is so high that I am going to leave him out of this conversation and focus on Brooks and Brewer.

The Dolphins are going through a rebuild, and it’s a rebuild that has this team torn down to the studs, and it won’t be a quick one-year turnaround.

So, you can make the case that Miami should look to sell off all valuable assets and bring in as many draft picks as possible.

With Jordyn Brooks and Aaron Brewer both in the final year of their contracts, the Dolphins really need to decide between now and the NFL Draft if they want to pay them big money and keep them long-term, or if it is best to trade them off to get more draft picks this year.

Currently, Miami has 11 draft picks in this year’s draft, with 7 being in the Top 100.

Trading off Brooks and Brewer would bring Miami at least two more Top 100 picks, and honestly, maybe three, depending on the team that is acquiring them.

Let’s start with Brooks. He is 28 years old and will be 29 in October.

By the time Miami is competitive again, he will be 31 or 32. Does he fit in Miami’s long-term plans?

While he was the NFL’s leading tackler and a veteran that a young team could use, I’m not sure the Dolphins win or lose any more games in 2026 if Brooks is on the roster.

His trade value will never be any higher than it is today, and you can make a case that it is “good business” to trade him now and acquire a 3rd-round pick (at least) for him.

In regard to Aaron Brewer, the Dolphins would probably be less inclined to trade him now, but money could be a factor.

Brewer is also 28 years old and will turn 29 in October, like Brooks and also like Brooks he is in the final year of his contract.

So, Miami has to decide to pay Brewer now or seriously consider moving him in the next two weeks to get peak trade value.

The one thing to keep in mind is that the Raiders this offseason paid free-agent center Tyler Linderbaum a 3-year, $81 million contract. So Brewer won’t get that much, but it will be close.

If Miami doesn’t want to invest that much money in an extension for Brewer, then they need to rush to trade Brewer now.

But if Miami feels they can sign Brewer to a fair deal, then keep him and sign Brewer to an extension this summer and have him be an anchor of your offensive line for years to come.

Paying a center compared to a running back or a linebacker is different. A center isn’t dependent on their 40-time and speed and such, so giving Brewer a long-term deal is different than paying De’Von Achane or Jordyn Brooks, where speed is a huge aspect of their game.

While I know many Dolphins fans won’t want to see Brooks or Brewer go, if you take the emotion out of it, then it may be best for the Dolphins long term to seriously consider moving them now.

We will see if Jon-Eric Sullivan does anything in the next two weeks.
