Should the Dolphins Trade Jaylen Waddle?
In his five seasons with the Miami Dolphins, Jaylen Waddle has played 78 games, with 373 receptions, 5,039 receiving yards, and 27 touchdowns.
He was drafted 6th overall in the 2021 NFL draft and is well known for his breakaway speed and highlight-reel plays.
And he is only 27 years old.
There is a strong argument that Waddle should remain with the team and make up one of the cornerstones of the Miami Dolphins’ roster.
So, why trade him?
Waddle has been injured at critical portions of the season and at 5’10 and 185 pounds, doesn’t have the ability to outmuscle larger defensive backs.
But his speed and play-making abilities outweigh that sentiment.
The reason that general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley could entertain a trade is if they receive an offer that they can’t refuse.”
A late first-round pick or an early second-round pick may entice the front office to pull the trigger.
Wide receivers are not difficult to find in the draft and would be a less expensive alternative to Waddle.
On the flip side, offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik has said he won’t change the offense much and wants to keep the misdirection and motions they are accustomed to.
Jaylen Waddle knows the scheme very well.
The only reason Waddle’s play dropped off in 2024 and 2025 was due to poor quarterback play, not anything Waddle could control.
Yet the early signs in Jon-Eric Sullivan’s and Jeff Hafley’s tenure have been to rip the team’s roster apart, except maybe for De’Von Achane.
Waddle’s future with the Dolphins should become clearer as the days and weeks roll on.
