The Washington Commanders failed to keep the momentum going last season, with injuries hurting Jayden Daniels' chances of taking leap in year two.
However, Deebo Samuel held his end of the bargain. The former San Francisco 49ers star was the team's primary pass catcher when Terry McLaurin was out with injuries, and he had a decent season (72 catches, 727 yards, six total touchdowns) despite the team's subpar offensive play.
That's why it's somewhat surprising to see that he's still a free agent at this point in the offseason.
Gilberto Manzano of Sports Illustrated believes the Las Vegas Raiders should be in a rush to make a run at him.
"Previously, I had the Colts as Samuel’s best team fit. I’ll switch here and go with the receiver-needy Raiders," Manzano wrote. "The Raiders—and rookie Fernando Mendoza if he hits the field this season—would benefit from having an experienced playmaker such as the 30-year-old Samuel."
The Raiders don't have much depth in the pass-catching department. Brock Bowers looks like a star, but he struggled with a lingering knee injury last year.
Then, they have Jalen Nailor, Tre Tucker, Jack Bech and Dont'e Thornton Jr., none of whom offer much certainty for Klint Kubiak in his first year in town.
Samuel may no longer be the dual-threat superstar he was in his heyday, but he was in great shape, healthy and productive last season.
