I had thought that signing Malik Willis, given the price tag and the Dolphins’ salary-cap constraints, would be prohibitive.
Boy, I was completely wrong about the mindset and the strategy being followed by our new general manager, Jon-Eric Sullivan, and head coach Jeff Hafley.
Not only are they bold and aggressive, but they are so damn smart.
And the signing of Malik Willis tells me something as a fan that is unmistakably true in 2026!
The Dolphins are not tanking the season, as did Chris Grier’s failed attempt in 2019.
The Miami Dolphins are competing, and it will be a lot of fun to watch.
The top brass is intent on keeping Jaylen Waddle, De’Von Achane, Aaron Brewer, Patrick Paul, Jordyn Brooks, and Zach Sieler to build the foundation of our new roster.
Good for them and good for us.
As fans, we can look forward to a new season.
Not as a playoff contender, not as finally winning a playoff game in the past 25 seasons, but simply enjoying our beloved team competing.
A will to win, be the best possible, and enjoy the game.
How refreshing.
We can look forward to the remainder of free agency, seeing how creative our new leaders can be, and look forward to the draft.
That is an entirely different outlook than we had just a few short weeks ago.
Thank god that Stephen Ross had the presence of mind, or great advice from his children, to decide a course for this team that, as fans, we can be hopeful for.
Start fresh, start new, and build from the foundation.
Taking a risk on a potential QB1.
Why not?
Malik Willis is unproven, I will agree with that, but he apparently showed Sullivan and Hafley enough to believe in him and successfully sign him.
And, for a long time coming, our new GM Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley are believable.
