South Jersey schools announce late start for day after Super Bowl

South Jersey is Eagles country and with the team just one win away from their second Super Bowl championship, it seems some area schools have learned their lesson by taking a proactive approach to their upcoming schedules.

Take the Walt Whitman Bridge into New Jersey and five minutes later you’ll find Gloucester City. Show up for school on the morning of February 13th and you might find an empty building. That’s because school officials have already scheduled a two-hour delay following Super Bowl LVII.

In an email sent to the district, Superintendent Sean Gorman said it was important to give students and staff the opportunity to enjoy the game with their families and still attend school & work the next day safely and well-rested.

Several area schools canceled classes after the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory in 2018, so a two-hour delay at this point seems reasonable.

Take a twenty-minute ride down 130 South and you’ll find a school that really plans ahead. Not only did Clearview Regional High School schedule a teacher in-service day after the Super Bowl, they allowed teachers to satisfy their professional responsibilities throughout the year by approving several in-house, off-site and online options.

In other words, students stay home that day and teachers that have already fulfilled their in-service commitments can stay home as well. That’s impressive considering school calendars are created months before the start of a school year. No word yet on victory parade accommodations, but expect to see some empty school buses if the Eagles win another Lombardi trophy.
