Coby Bryant’s signing with the Chicago Bears arguably represents the biggest offseason move for the franchise. His addition addresses the need at safety and provides the team with championship experience at the position.
The No. 109 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft played a key role in helping the Seattle Seahawks win the Super Bowl last season. He appeared in 15 regular-season games, recording 66 combined tackles, four interceptions and seven passes deflected. Bryant also added 10 tackles in the postseason.
He generated interest from other teams but ultimately signed with Chicago. Bryant agreed to a three-year, $40 million deal on March 11. The Cincinnati Bearcats product has proven in his NFL career that he is an impact player. His speed and strong hands are his biggest weapons, which the Bears will rely on heavily in 2026.
Bryant appeared on NFL Network’s “The Insiders” on Tuesday. Hosts Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport asked him a variety of questions, and he opened up about Caleb Williams’ gesture after he signed with Chicago. The safety shared that the quarterback reached out to him and that they had a good conversation.
“Yeah, just an elite competitor, honestly,” Bryant said. “Great leader. Like I said before, he spoke volumes. Him reaching out to me when I signed and him just paying his respect — and vice versa, man.
“The sky’s the limit. He has a bright future, and I’m definitely looking forward to competing against him and playing with him as well.”
It may be a simple act, but Williams showcased his maturity and leadership. He also made Bryant feel welcomed and showed that his addition is valuable to the team.
The Bears reached the Divisional Round last year and are looking to go deeper in the playoffs. The schedule does not favor them, but with a retooled roster, they have a fighting chance.
