NFL agent Jeff Sperbeck died on Wednesday after injuries suffered when he fell off a golf cart reportedly being driven by John Elway. The longtime business partner and friend of the Hall of Fame quarterback was 62.

The Riverside County (California) coroner confirmed Sperbeck's death in a news release from the sheriff's office. Sperbeck was injured Saturday night in La Quinta, California, according to a report by ESPN.

Elway was driving the golf cart when Sperbeck fell off and hit his head on asphalt. Sperbeck had been sitting in the passenger seat, a source told ESPN. Sperbeck had been on life support following the fall.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident, though TMZ reported that there was no indication that Elway was driving negligently when Sperbeck fell after the two men and their spouses had left a party after a music festival.

Sperbeck spent the past four decades working on behalf of several prominent NFL players, including Elway, Jim Plunkett, Ronnie Lott, and others. He joined Rep1 Sports in 2018 and continued to represent current coaches, retired players, and select active players. He also worked on NIL deals for college stars over the past five years.

In 2015, Elway and Sperbeck founded 7Cellars, which produces premium wines from central California and Napa Valley. Sperbeck, who lived in Southern California, would almost always accompany the former Broncos general manager on West Coast trips.
