Steelers 2024 training camp schedule released

The dates for the Steelers' 2024 training camp have been made official, with players reporting to Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa., on July 24.

The first practice open to the public will be held on July 25 at 10:30 a.m. The first four practices of training camp are deemed the acclimation period, which means those practices will not be in full pads. The first padded practice will take place on July 30, also scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

An annual highlight of camp is the 'Friday Night Lights' practice, which will be held on Aug. 2 at Latrobe Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m.

The only Saturday without a practice during training camp is Aug. 10, due to the Steelers playing their first preseason game against the Texans the night before at Acrisure Stadium. Players obviously have off days the day following a game.

The final practice open to the public at Saint Vincent College will be on Aug. 14 at 10:30 a.m. Camp officially breaks the following day. After that, all preseason practices will take place at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, which are obviously not open to the public.

One thing that stands out about this year's schedule is a 10:30 a.m. start time for all weekday practices, except for the 'Friday Night Lights' practice. Typically, all practices have started at 1:55 p.m., which remains the start time for weekend practices this year. The Steelers have previously held a morning walkthrough that ended around 10:30 a.m. or so. But now, 10 of the 16 scheduled practices will begin around that time.

The shift in practice time for these days leaves some questions about player availability to the media. Players and coaches have typically met with the media following the morning walkthrough and again following practice. But, there is a distinct advantage for players and fans on these days as practice will not be taking place in the heat of the day.

Admission to open practices at training camp is free, but all attendees require a mobile ticket. The Steelers have announced that season ticket holders will have early access to secure their tickets via Ticketmaster on June 25 at 10 a.m., wait list members follow at 11 a.m. and remaining tickets for the public will be available at noon.
