The Pittsburgh Steelers have been in the midst of another one of their quarterback whirlwinds that hev become commonplace in recent years.

After nearly two decades of consistent quarterback play from Ben Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers has become the most recent quarterback in the Steelers' system since his retirement. With a fracture in his non-throwing hand during the first half of the Steelers win over the Bengals, he did not play in the following week's loss to the Chicago Bears.

Now, the question is whether or not he will play this week against the Buffalo Bills. Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette took to 93.7 The Fan for one of his weekly appearances in order to address his thoughts on Rodgers for the coming week.

Insider Issues His Concerns

"Mike [Tomlin] said it was a prudent decision which leads me to believe there were some medical concerns about that wrist stabilizing. With another week, maybe it's better, but I don't know how much even a hairline fracture on a bone like the wrist is gonna mean in a week," Fittipaldo said. "We'll have to see what happens this week, but at this point, I don't know to be honest, I'm probably 50/50 playing or sitting again."

Fittipaldo seems to be on the more pessimistic end of things in regards to Rodgers' availability. During the leadup to last week's game, there was a possibility that Rodgers would be available, and that he was pushing coaches and personnel to le thim play. To give him less of a shot to play a week later seems unlikely.

The Importance of Aaron Rodgers

The Steelers have found out that Mason Rudolph may not be a viable option for them moving forward, with some fans and media clamoring for third string quarterback Will Howard during their loss to the Bears. With that in mind, the Steelers will likely need to rely on Rodgers to guarantee them success moving forward.

With the season over halfway done, the Steelers will need to perform well in order to make the playoffs, let alone reach their ultimate goal of winning a playoff game. With two important games against the top team in the AFC North in the Baltimore Ravens ahead, the Steelers will need to play complete football down the stretch. Rodgers gives them the best chance to do that on the offensive side of the football, so his health is tantamount to their success.
