The Pittsburgh Steelers’ 23–9 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday produced more headlines for the playing surface than the box score.
Chris Boswell slipped on a long field‑goal attempt in the game and special‑teams captain Miles Killebrew suffered a significant non‑contact knee injury.
Aaron Rodgers, never one to mince words, didn't hold back after the game, saying, "The field got borderline unplayable."
"I just felt like it got real beat up," Rodgers continued. "By the time the third quarter rolled around, that thing was really beat up. It reminds me a little bit of the field in Green Bay in the early years, but not until, like, November or early December where it would get kind of torn up a little bit. Then they went out and found an incredible field maintenance guy that came over and helped our guys out, and the field in Green Bay is absolutely immaculate, but the field today got pretty torn up."
Within 24 hours, the team announced plans to replace the natural sod at Acrisure Stadium.

Rodgers, who signed a one‑year, $13.6 million deal with Pittsburgh this offseason, delivered a strong performance on Sunday, completing 21‑of‑30 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns; one to wide receiver DK Metcalf and another to tight end Connor Heyward.
Rodgers’ comments — from a veteran quarterback with a national profile — helped accelerate attention toward immediate corrective action by stadium operations.
The decision to re‑sod comes amid an ongoing leaguewide conversation about field safety and the benefits/drawbacks of playing on turf versus grass.
Acrisure Stadium has a natural grass surface made of Kentucky bluegrass, but its wear and tear has become evident due to its frequent use.
Not only do the Steelers play all of their preseason and regular season games at Acrisure Stadium, but so do college football's Pittsburgh Panthers.
Acrisure Stadium will next host the Pittsburgh vs. NC State ACC showdown on Oct. 25, followed by the Steelers vs. Packers NFL matchup one day later.
