Steelers' massive jump in playoff chances comes with a catch when analyzing remaining opponents

The Pittsburgh Steelers passed their first real test of the year on Sunday, taking down a red-hot Washington Commanders squad in what was one of the best games of the weekend.

In doing so, Pittsburgh maintained sole possession of first place in the AFC North, with everything on the line heading into Sunday's huge matchup with the Baltimore Ravens.

But that's where things become interesting, as starting this week, the matchups only get harder:

Steelers Playoff Picture, Post Week 10

After their win on Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a 91.3% chance of making the playoffs when aggregating the average of percentage chances from ESPN, The Athletic, and NFL.Com

Prior to Week 10's win, the Steelers were at a notable 75% chance of making the postseason (per The Athletic), with the win over a serious playoff contender adding points to their resume.

But if you're someone looking to hedge your bet against the Steelers, you have to analyze the fact that their final eight games include all divisional matchups and two games against a 7-2 Philadelphia Eagles squad and Christmas Day extravaganza with the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.

And while the Steelers lead the Ravens in the AFC North, both The Athletic and ESPN project the Ravens to win the division, giving the Birds a 70% chance and 63% chance respectively.

So it's safe to say that Sunday's game will be paramount in the race for the division, and ultimately the playoff picture. With two matchups left, it's not a must win for Pittsburgh, but given the status of their schedule, getting one over on the Ravens would be better sooner than later.
