Steelers must re-sign this safety

The Steelers have brought in more players from other teams than they have re-signed throughout free agency. However, there is still one player of their own who need to re-sign as soon as possible.

That player is safety Terrell Edmunds and Pittsburgh must retain him before another team steals him away.

Edmunds was drafted by the Steelers in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft and has been in Pittsburgh ever since. He has 410 tackles, five sacks, five interceptions and 26 passes defensed in his career.

The 26-year-old may not jump off the stat sheet, but he has been a solid player for the Steelers over the past five years.

Pittsburgh recently re-signed safety Damontae Kazee to a two-year deal as well. So, bringing back Edmunds would keep continuity and depth in the team's secondary.

The Steelers were able to let Edmunds test free agency a year ago and re-sign him to a one-year, $2.53 million contract. If Pittsburgh can do a similar deal again, it would certainly be a win.

Edmunds is still somewhat hidden among the remaining free agents, ranking at No. 66 on Pro Football Focus' 100 best remaining free agents list. However, the longer the Steelers wait, the more likely it is another team will come and scoop him up.

Kazee also turns 30 this summer and if Pittsburgh isn't able to retain Edmunds, safety will be another position of need heading into the 2023 NFL Draft.
