Steelers need to sign top free-agent S available

Safety Terrell Edmunds posted his goodbye to the Steelers yesterday. Pittsburgh is now in need of a safety and there is still a young, Super Bowl champion available.

Former Rams safety Taylor Rapp ranks as Pro Football Focus' No. 11 remaining free agent and its top-ranked safety. The Steelers should go get him immediately.

Rapp has 330 tackles, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, nine interceptions and 23 passes defensed in his career. He is heading into his fifth season and Pittsburgh would be a great fit as his new home.

The Steelers have been adding a mix of youth and experience throughout free agency, but Rapp brings both. He is still only 25 and won Super Bowl LVI with Los Angeles.

The 2019 second-round pick may have been retained by the Rams if they weren't in a difficult cap situation as well as somewhat of a rebuild. So, Pittsburgh should pounce on the opportunity to grab him.

Rapp shouldn't bring an expensive price tag either as the league is almost two weeks into free agency and the Steelers still have nearly $11 million in cap space, per Spotrac.

Rapp may not be the long-term answer at safety but giving him a year to prove himself for a larger contract works out for both sides as Pittsburgh is now very thin at the position.
