Steelers Officially Sign Exciting Draft Picks Roman Wilson And Ryan Watts; Add Two Players To Rookie Minicamp Roster
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially signed rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson to his rookie contract. Wilson was selected in the third round with the 84th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and the team has very high hopes for him. As it stands right now, Wilson looks to be the team's WR2 behind George Pickens. Whether that's a fair ask for a third round rookie or not, he'll need to step up and contribute early to help the passing game succeed.

Steelers Also Sign Sixth Round Draft Pick, Ryan Watts

The Steelers waited a little longer than anticipated to select a defensive back in the 2024 NFL Draft, but at pick 195, they drafted the lengthy 6'3" cornerback from the University of Texas, Ryan Watts. Watts fits the mold of recent draft picks at cornerback and will join Joey Porter Jr. and Cory Trice Jr. in the secondary, two very lengthy cornerbacks as well. Watts and Trice Jr. have a nearly identical build, so it's no surprise they like Watts. The Steelers really liked what they saw from Trice Jr. last offseason before he suffered a season-ending injury in training camp. Watts started 23 games for the Longhorns and can provide quality depth in the secondary.

Steelers Add TE Joel Honigford And LB/DE Joshua Pryor To Rookie Minicamp Roster

Honigford played tight end and offensive line at Michigan and only caught one pass, so he projects as a blocking specialist in the NFL. The Steelers already have Darnell Washington and MyCole Pruitt to block at the tight end position, so it'll be hard for Honigford to find a spot on the 53-man roster as it stands. The team is looking to establish the run all 2024 however, so spectators will have to wait and see for the outcome. Honigford was a teammate of Wilson at Michigan where the team enjoyed a lot of success.

Pryor played college football at Bowie State and appeared in seven games last season with the Washington Commanders where he contributed on special teams. He played 157 special teams snaps last season and even blocked a kick, so if he makes the 53-man roster, there is potential for him to be impactful on the special teams unit. He's currently listed as a defensive end on Pro Football Reference.
