The Pittsburgh Steelers take a lot of pride in their defense, but their ability to defend the pass was a bit of a question this past season.
So they had to make sure they kept the players that made their impact felt in 2024.
One of those players was veteran safety DeShon Elliott, who the team just announced is officially signing a three-year contract to stay in Pittsburgh.
The Steelers had Elliot, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Joey Porter as the highlight guys of their secondary this past season. Now that they have added a veteran like Darius Slay from the Super Bowl-winning roster of the Philadelphia Eagles, it could make their defense even scarier than it already is.
And Elliott building on his strong 2024 season could play a big factor in that.
The 28-year-old defensive back finished this past season with an impressive 108 total tackles, 72 of which were solo. He was also able to show his versatility with four tackles for loss, six pass deflections, and an interception.
Elliott played a bit of free safety this past season with the Steelers, but his tackling ability fits very well at strong safety. Now that he is listed as the team's starting strong safety on their depth chart, he could be in prime position to have a repeat of his performance in 2024.
The Steelers have made the playoff each of the last two seasons, so Elliott and the rest of the team's defense will be looking to help lead the team back to the postseason for the third season in a row.
