Steelers Receive Concerning Michael Pittman Jr. Injury Update

The Pittsburgh Steelers offense has started to come alive in recent weeks, even without Michael Pittman Jr. contributing much.

Pittman has recorded just two receptions in each of the Steelers’ last two games for a total of 31 yards. While his production has been lackluster, it has largely been due to a recurring foot injury that sidelined the 29-year-old in Week 2.

With extra time to recover following last week’s Thursday Night Football game, the Steelers hoped Pittman would be closer to full strength for Week 5 against his former team, the Indianapolis Colts. Instead, his foot injury continues to be a concern.

During Wednesday’s practice, Pittman was seen rolling around on a scooter with his foot propped up, according to Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com.

The sight is certainly concerning, as it suggests the seventh-year receiver is still being significantly affected by the foot injury.

However, this may not come as much of a surprise, as Pittman is reportedly dealing with plantar fasciitis. It’s an injury that can linger, especially for a position such as wide receiver, where players constantly put significant strain on their feet.

Very likely, this is something Pittman will have to manage on a week-to-week basis, and even when he’s on the field, he may not be at full speed.

Still, Pittman isn’t using the injury as an excuse for his recent struggles, as he told Farabaugh.

“I don’t make any type of excuses for injury. If I’m out there, then I’m out there. There’s no injury or anything to make an excuse for when you play out there. That’s me out there. And there’s some things I can do better,” Pittman said.

While Steelers fans will surely love to hear that mindset from one of their top players, it doesn’t change the fact that Pittsburgh has a banged-up receiver at a position where it’s already thin.

The Steelers acquired Pittman and a 2026 seventh-round pick from the Colts in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick prior to the season, bringing him in to pair alongside DK Metcalf.

Fortunately for Pittsburgh, Roman Wilson has stepped up in his third season, building a connection with Aaron Rodgers as a deep-ball threat. The 25-year-old has scored a touchdown in consecutive games while totaling at least 60 receiving yards in each.

Wilson may have to continue establishing himself in Mike McCarthy’s offense while Pittman manages his injury.
