The Steelers may not have their quarterback situation completely figured out, but that's not stopping them from looking to add more offensive weapons.
As Pittsburgh awaits a decision from Aaron Rodgers, the team has reportedly reopened trade talks with a fellow AFC team in an effort to acquire a star tight end.
Writes Adam Schefter of ESPN: "Back in it: the Steelers renewed conversations today with Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith, who is seeking a new contract. The trade between the Steelers and Dolphins is still alive, per source."
Smith is coming off the most productive season of his career after several years with the Titans, Patriots and Falcons prior to his arrival in Miami.
The former third-round pick emerged as weapon for Tua Tagovailoa and the Fins' offense in 2024, catching 88 passes for 884 yards and eight touchdowns in 17 games (six starts).
Smith was the only Pro Bowler the Dolphins had last season. But after signing a two-year, $8.4 million contract last offseason, the veteran TE is looking for a pay raise — which could lead to the organization dealing him elsewhere.
Mike Tomlin and Co. are hoping that'll be them. Although Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel maintains that Smith is an "important player" in the team's offense and trading him is "not a focus" at this time.
We'll see if Pittsburgh circling back to the negotiating table changes anything on Miami's side.
