The Pittsburgh Steelers continued rolling over the weekend as they picked up their first divisional win of the year over the Cleveland Browns to move to 4-1.
Unfortunately, the win came at a cost.
The team lost Miles Killebrew to a knee injury during the Week 6 win.
Killebrew has been one of the team's most important special teams players over the last few years, earning All-Pro honors in 2023 and Pro Bowl nods in each of the last two seasons.
He is also a captain for the Steelers.
It's a big blow for the Steelers' special teams and it seems to now have them looking for somebody to fill in for Killebrew.
According to the NFL's transactions page, the Steelers hosted former San Francisco 49ers special teamer George Odum for a workout.
Odum has put together a solid special teams career of his own.
After going unselected in the 2018 draft, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts. He spent four years with the Colts, earning All-Pro honors in the third of those seasons.
Over the four seasons, he was a part of 150 tackles and forced four fumbles.
Odum left the Colts a year after his All-Pro nod and joined the 49ers on a three-year contract.
He earned All-Pro honors for the second time in his career during his first season with the 49ers.
Odum signed a two-year contract extension with San Francisco in 2024, but was released during this year's preseason after he had undergone offseason elbow surgery.
Over three seasons with the 9ers, he was a part of 50 total tackles.
As one of the team's captains, there is no replacing the impact Killebrew has for the Steelers.
However, the Steelers would have a hard time finding another special teamer as accomplished as Odum if they are looking outside of their roster for the next man up.
At 31 years old and coming off of elbow surgery, Odum might not be the player he was at his peak, but he could still be a solid producer for the Steelers as they look to keep their roster well-rounded for a playoff run.
The Steelers made it clear during the offseason that they're ready to do whatever they must to propel themselves into contention in the AFC. That should mean they'll be ready to make a move for Odum if he looked up to the task during his workout.
Maybe Odum will be the next veteran addition to the Steelers for the 2025 season.
