The Pittsburgh Steelers had seen enough of George Pickens and dealt him to the Dallas Cowboys nearly a week ago, and as fans continue to wait and see if Aaron Rodgers becomes the Steelers' next quarterback, some are considering the team should entire a full-blown rebuild.
Although Pittsburgh still has star-caliber players at multiple impactful positions, and are led by a head coach with sustained success in Mike Tomlin, a trade is apparently their only hope in making some use of this roster for the future.
At least that's how one site views it.
Last Word On Sports is suggesting the Steelers attempt another blockbuster trade this offseason by foolishly dealing away superstar safety and Steelers veteran Minkah Fitzpatrick.
The clicks-driven social media account JPAFootball posed fans with a poll that questioned whether Pittsburgh should enter a rebuild now, and whether that means trading Fitzpatrick or star defensive end T.J. Watt.
The poll results chose to keep Watt in the Steel City ... which must be enough to create rumors that Pittsburgh wants to move on from the five-time Pro Bowler Fitzpatrick, claiming "the team doesn’t have a clear future for the safety."
Fitzpatrick has been one of the best and most consistent safeties in the NFL since being traded to the Steelers in 2019. He has made the Pro Bowl in four of the six seasons he's been in Pittsburgh, with two of those seasons ending with 1st Team All-Pro honors.
He may have had some brief injury history and dip in production that could be monitored now that Minkah is already deep into his NFL career, but his veteran leadership and reliability should be taken advantage of if the Steelers want to give themselves a chance to be anywhere close to competitive next season.
The offense may already be shaky in 2025 (pending Rodgers), but trading away Fitzpatrick puts those same concerns on the defense, too.
The trade idea predicts three teams that could be interested in pursuing Fitzpatrick: the Washington Commanders, Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints ... the latter two of which are also contenders to enter (or continue) a "rebuild".
So if they would be so interested in rebuilding with Minkah, why wouldn't Pittsburgh be?
Thankfully for Steelers fans, the roster decisions are made by professionals who work for the organization and not frustrated fans who can do nothing but whine online.
